Can Suicide Be Prevented? As said in the dictionary, suicide is the desperate attempt to escape unbearable pain or suffering by intentionally causing one ownââ¬â¢s death. In simpler terms, an act of suicide is when someone takes their life, commonly due to immense feelings of sadness, loneliness, hopelessness, or depression. According to the Centers for Disease Control, over the past decade, suicide rates have risen quickly to the tenth leading cause of death among people over the age of ten. The CDC also stated that over 40,000 of these deaths have been recorded each year, meaning that about 100 people take their lives each day - a statistic that is almost too hard to hear.
